Wide shot of forum\u003cbr/\u003eThe Chinese Ambassador to the United States, Zhou Wenzhong, took his country's pledge to clean up its environment to the Washington Sustainability Forum on Tuesday.\u003cbr/\u003eZhou said China was working towards an environmentally friendly environment, adding: \"Conserving resources and the environment is a basic state policy of China.\"\u003cbr/\u003eThe ambassador even used a Chinese proverb to make his point: \"One shall not drain the pond to catch fish, nor burn up the whole tracks of forests to hunt animals.\"\u003cbr/\u003eZhou said the Chinese government was working with the largest industries which were causing the most damage to the environment.\u003cbr/\u003eHe said the Chinese government had moved several factories, and was also charging higher tariffs on exports.\u003cbr/\u003e\"We will export less products which are energy consuming and could do harm to the environment, such as iron and steel.
