So I went up and I knew the house they were out of so I knocked on their door and they were almost indignant that id been going through their garbage.\"\u003cbr/\u003e17. Various of Mark Ure speaking with neighbour.\u003cbr/\u003eIn the heart of one of the Australia's wealthiest suburbs lies a house full of junkďż˝ junk destined for a second life.\u003cbr/\u003eSydney resident and retiree Mark Ure collects other people's discarded possessions. His aim is to breathe new life into the items and give them to the needy.\u003cbr/\u003eFrom combat helmets to crockery and delicate jewels, objects large and small adorn the walls and floor of Mark's garage. Objects he says will otherwise go to landfill.\u003cbr/\u003eBut apart from Mark's environmental concerns, the former engineer is good with his hands and says it's a hobby to keep active and alert.\u003cbr/\u003e\"I'm only doing it as a hobby and as a personal interest. I don't like seeing resources going to landfill. So I like to go there and pull out the things that can be re-used and re-use them.\"\u003cbr/\u003eMark collects old furniture, clothes and equipment off the street - and will even pick it up free from homes and businesses. Once cleaned and restored most items are sent to charities or families in need.\u003cbr/\u003e\"At the end of the day you load up the ute and another ute load goes off and you think oh well that didn't go to landfill that will be reused that's some more resources that have been saved.\" Mark said.\u003cbr/\u003eAnd his friends don't seem to mind his eccentricities. Neighbour Debbie Redelman encourages Mark's pursuits.\u003cbr/\u003e\"I'm very supportive. I often ring him up and tell him about things I see in the street that might be good for recycling or whatever.\"\u003cbr/\u003eMark Ure admits he's had some surprises while rifling through other people's junk. But Mark Ure is certainly doing his part to minimise waste. Australians produce around 50 million tonnes of waste each year, and recycle around 50 per cent.\u003cbr/\u003eJeff Angel from lobby group Total Environment Centre says governments can learn a lesson of two from Mark Ure.\u003cbr/\u003e\"Governments should start investing and creating the right economic environment, so that private investors can build these recycling
