The problem is, obviously, many of the homeowners are still displaced. And that's why we're working at all levels of government to encourage evacuees to inspect their property, to salvage what they can and to make decisions about the future.\"\u003cbr/\u003e14. Bush returned on Wednesday to a still-suffering Gulf Coast where boarded-up homes, \"No Trespassing\" signs, stray dogs and streets covered in unattended debris offered up a desolate portrait of what was once a lively city, six months after Hurricane Katrina struck. \u003cbr/\u003eBy air, Bush toured the areas around Lake Pontchartrain, where water burst its banks and flooded an upper middle class neighbourhood.\u003cbr/\u003eIn the Lower Ninth Ward, an area also ravaged by flood waters and hurricane winds, Bush walked down a street where debris removal crews were clearing away limbs, plywood scraps and personal possessions left by people who had fled the city.\u003cbr/\u003eHe stopped briefly to talk to construction workers and went into a house in the neighbourhood that is almost ready for habitation.\u003cbr/\u003eThe president also visited a construction project on the banks of the Mississippi River to repair and upgrade the levees.\u003cbr/\u003eBush's trip, his tenth since the hurricane hit, focused in on three problem areas: efforts to restore the ravaged city's levees, removing still-persistent debris from affected communities and lagging efforts to get people back to their homes. \u003cbr/\u003eKatrina was one of the worst natural disasters in US history, responsible for the death of more than 1,300 people in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama. Hundreds of thousands of people were left homeless. The storm caused tens of billions of US dollars in damage. \u003cbr/\u003eLater in the day, the president was due to fly east to the Biloxi-Gulfport area of Mississippi, another state hit hard by
