But then I got hit in the neck pretty early on, it was maybe five rounds in, and I obviously at that point realised what was going on,\" he said. \u003cbr/\u003eBarton tumbled to the floor, trying to stanch his bleeding neck wound and listening to the methodical gunfire.\u003cbr/\u003eEventually the firing stopped and the victims' screams filled the air.\u003cbr/\u003e\"When it stopped I really thought that he was probably just reloading and would start walking up and down the theatre killing everyone. That was probably like the lowest point of the night for me personally. Where I really thought maybe this is the end and this will be the end of my life,\" Barton said.  \u003cbr/\u003eBarton recalled seeing people running towards an exit.\u003cbr/\u003eHe said he ran with them, through the lobby and into the car park, where he was rushed to hospital.\u003cbr/\u003e\"I didn't look back so I've no idea where the shooter was or what he was doing at that time,\" Barton said.\u003cbr/\u003eRodriguez-Torrent escaped unhurt. \u003cbr/\u003eThe other member of their group has a brain injury from a gunshot in her face, but doctors are optimistic about her recovery, Barton said. \u003cbr/\u003eThey declined to identify her by name.\u003cbr/\u003eBarton and Rodriguez-Torrent may finish their bike ride to San Francisco next year, leaving from the Aurora cinema and using the trip to raise money for other victims and their families.\u003cbr/\u003e1. At the time, I still thought it was fireworks. I thought just someone had set up a lot of fireworks in the theatre. But shortly after that I saw people rushing for the back left exit and I thought I've been hit in the neck, I might be bleeding a lot so, I had already been wounded so I might as well head for the door.
