about how far robot technology has developed and how it is used in everyday life. \u003cbr/\u003eThe fair presents the robotics industry a chance to showcase the latest intelligent mobile and autonomous systems, which may have applications in both mass industry and the service sector. \u003cbr/\u003eRobots of all shapes, sizes and purposes are on show at the 'Hanover Messe' technology fair. \u003cbr/\u003eFrom information points to security systems, robots are becoming more and more visible undertaking everyday roles in our daily life. \u003cbr/\u003eRobowatch is showing off its reconnaissance robots for outdoor surveillance. \u003cbr/\u003eThe OFRO Detect model can recognise a person's heat signature using a thermal-imaging camera that rotates 360 degrees and alert its masters by sending an alert on cell phone networks.\u003cbr/\u003eOther robots are programmed to meet visitors at the entrances to museums and supply information. \u003cbr/\u003eRoko Tschakarow of 'Schunk' Precision Workholding Systems says that his clients are some of the very first to employ robots as information points in museums and other public places. \u003cbr/\u003eOne of the highlights of the fair was the RoboCup German Open 2008 staged by the Fraunhofer Institute for Autonomous Intelligent Systems in collaboration with Deutsche Messe.\u003cbr/\u003eAutomatons and androids from popular culture they are not, but the small robots playing on the field of sport are no less entertaining.\u003cbr/\u003eA tournament of soccer playing robots, among the competitors are 350 university students and computer engineers from 14 countries. \u003cbr/\u003eTheir 49 teams are competing in six different kinds of robot soccer split into three leagues,\u003cbr/\u003eSome move about on three wheels while others plod slowly and deliberately on two legs or four legs. \u003cbr/\u003eLike variety on a toy store shelf, these robots come in a multitude of sizes and designs, with some no bigger than a thumb while others can reach r 80 centimetres. \u003cbr/\u003eThey all share one attribute though that binds them, programming to help them compete and, if their mechanics hold up, win the annual RoboCup German Open at the annual Hannover Trade Fair by getting the ball into their opponents' goal.\u003cbr/\u003eThe competing students and researchers hope to qualify for the 2008 RoboCup World Championships which take place in China later this year.  \u003cbr/\u003eStefan Kohlbrecher, a student and member of Darmstadt Dribblers team, from the Technical University of Darmstadt, says their humanoid robot uses a webcam to locate the ball. \u003cbr/\u003eHe hopes that one day the robots will be able to compete with world class soccer players, but he admits that is still a long way off. \u003cbr/\u003eOther novelty robots amazed the crowds with their musical abilities, whether on percussion or flute. \u003cbr/\u003eKajsa Pettersson, Motoman's Marketing Director for Europe says that she hopes that humans and robots will co-operate every more closely in the future. \u003cbr/\u003eOne of the most surprising robots was an artificial autonomous jellyfish called 'AquaJelly'.\u003cbr/\u003eThe robot boasts an electric drive unit and and intelligent adaptive mechanism that emulates jellyfish swimming behaviour  \u003cbr/\u003eThe designers say that if several 'AquaJellies' are given a communicative faculty, they can act as a swarm, which then behaves as a system with a higher order of development. \u003cbr/\u003eThe developers believe this may one day
