Peronist Loyalty Day...\u003c/span\u003e\n\u003cspan class='full-description hide'\u003eAs Argentina President Cristina Fernandez recovers from surgery for a cranial blood clot, thousands of her supporters marched on Thursday in the capital to mark Peronist Loyalty Day and to wish the president well. \u003cbr/\u003ePeronist Loyalty Day commemorates the massive mobilisation by supporters of the late President Juan Domingo Peron to demand his release after he was imprisoned as retaliation for his pro-worker policies. \u003cbr/\u003ePeron and his wife, former Argentine First Lady Eva \"Evita\" Peron are credited with forming a movement that made working-class people feel represented as he modernised Argentina in the 1940s and 1950s, pushing through worker-friendly laws, giving women the right to vote and fostering a post-war boom in national production.\u003cbr/\u003eIn remembrance of Peron's legacy, supporters marched toward the Plaza de Mayo square in Buenos Aires playing instruments and carrying large flags.\u003cbr/\u003eThey gathered for a rally in front of La Casa Rosada (The Pink House), the office of the president.\u003cbr/\u003eIn a festival-like atmosphere, some supporters splashed around a fountain and others played chess.\u003cbr/\u003eVendors sold souvenirs with the likeness of Peronist leaders, including Fernandez and her late husband, former president Nestor Kirchner as well as General Peron and \"Evita\" Peron.\u003cbr/\u003eT-shirts on sale with the image of Fernandez urged her to stay strong.\u003cbr/\u003eFernandez underwent surgery on 8 October to drain a blood clot that was pressing on her brain and causing pain.\u003cbr/\u003eOfficials said it was caused by a previously unreported blow to the head that she suffered in August.\u003cbr/\u003eDoctors discharged the 60-year-old from the hospital on Sunday.\u003cbr/\u003eShe's following strict orders from doctors to rest for 30 days.\u003cbr/\u003eThat period of rest would keep her out of the campaign for legislative elections on 27 October. \u003cbr/\u003ePolls indicate that her party could suffer losses.\u003cbr/\u003eFernandez is staying  in the presidential residence in Olivos, a suburb north of the capital. \u003cbr/\u003eThe government isn't disseminating official medical updates on Fernandez, so news on her health condition is known through government officials and her allies.\u003cbr/\u003eFernandez has been replaced at the head of the executive branch by Vice President Amado Boudou.\u003cbr/\u003e1.
