It's not about a 16-year-old becoming famous and known to the world. It's about a 16-year-old who is dying for the world to hear her plea, which is educate girls around the world and I think that's what's bringing her through this craziness that is daunting for anybody.\"\u003cbr/\u003eEven the young daughter of Australian director Baz Luhrmann and designer Catherine Martin said she was excited the young activist was there. \u003cbr/\u003e\"I think I want to meet Malala and Lady Gaga,\" said Lillian Amanda Luhrmann.\u003cbr/\u003e\"In that order,\" added her dad.\u003cbr/\u003eMartin was being awarded for her work by actress Rose Byrne.\u003cbr/\u003e\"Probably not everybody would know about this woman behind Baz who is obviously larger than life and a genius himself but she is truly remarkable in her work. I've always, yeah...because his style is so specific to those films it's really such a look and it's very heightened and that's Catherine,\" explained Byrne.\u003cbr/\u003eMartin was humbled by the attention.\u003cbr/\u003e\"Look I find it slightly embarrassing if I'm absolutely honest,\" she laughed. \"My parents were very upset to find out on the internet that I was nominated for this and I didn't tell them. It's because I'm just so in awe of all the other women that are nominated and I kind of thing, well, you know, what have I done for world peace? Probably institutionalized fish nets and thrown a bit of glitter around but I think to support other women, to really keep telling our stories and moving the conditions of women forward in the world is an extremely important thing to support.\"\u003cbr/\u003eAlso recognized was Kaitlin Roig-DeBellis, a first grade teacher at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Conn., who almost one year ago rushed her students into the class bathroom and refused to unlock the door for police, worried it was a gunman trying to trick them to come out. She told police to slide their badges under the door to prove they were law enforcement.\u003cbr/\u003eRoig-DeBellis recently ran the New York City Marathon in honor of the 26 killed by a single gunman in Dec. 2012 at the elementary school. \u003cbr/\u003e\"Every morning I wake up and I have to remind myself that, 'yes, this really did happen and yes this is the life that I am living without the lives that used to be a part of mine.' So, of course. Yes. But, I choose to wake up every morning and do the best I can to put one foot in front of the other because I am very aware that roles could've been reversed and it could've been my life and I would want someone else to do the same for me.\"\u003cbr/\u003eNeither Lady Gaga or Barbra Streisand spoke to reporters on the red carpet, but Streisand's self-professed \"best friend\", designer Donna Karan had this to say about the singer:\u003cbr/\u003e\"She's a Barbra of heart and soul and spirit. She sees everything and because she's so creative it all affects her. So, she does want to make a major change in the world. She's involved in government, she's involved in music, she's involved...she always has a purpose and a reason, you know? And even if that's with having fun that's a purpose and a reason.
