Wide of news conference\u003cbr/\u003eThe international community on Thursday promised more humanitarian and financial assistance to flood-ravaged Pakistan, three weeks after the crisis began.\u003cbr/\u003eGermany and Saudi Arabia announced new pledges of aid, while Japan said it would send helicopters to help distribute food, water and medicine. \u003cbr/\u003eThe Asian Development Bank said it would redirect two (b) billion US dollars of existing and planned loans for reconstruction.\u003cbr/\u003eAid groups and the United Nations have complained foreign donors have not been quick or generous enough given the scale of the disaster.\u003cbr/\u003eThe floods affected 20 (m) million people and about one-fifth of Pakistan's territory, straining its government which has been criticised for failing to respond quickly enough.\u003cbr/\u003eLocal aid groups, the Pakistani army and international aid agencies have helped hundreds of thousands of people with food, shelter, water and medical care, but the distribution has been chaotic and has not come close to reaching everyone.\u003cbr/\u003eIn Ali Pur, in the south of Punjab, survivors struggled through flood waters to reach relief supplies being handed out from the back of a truck.\u003cbr/\u003eThere were chaotic scenes as the desperate flood victims tried to claim some much-needed aid.\u003cbr/\u003eSome complained that there was not enough relief being provided to the people of the devastated region.\u003cbr/\u003eIn Dera Ismail Khan region survivors expressed fears of an escalation in deaths from disease and hunger. \u003cbr/\u003eThe \"drinking water is not clean, which causes illness to our children. We haven't got anything from the government, we have only one tent to live in,\" said one survivor.\u003cbr/\u003eAt a UN news conference in the capital, Islamabad, on Thursday, the head of the UN Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs said considerably more aid was still needed and David Dallan of the Food and Agriculture Organisation said a key priority was to get displaced farmers back on their land as quickly as possible.\u003cbr/\u003e\"If we cannot get their food production restarted within the very short time-frame we have, we are looking at having to support them for a considerable period of time, and they will only be in a position to feed themselves in the spring harvest of 2012,\" Dallan said.\u003cbr/\u003eThe floods began in the northwest of the country after
