No child in Iraq has ever had this surgery done before. It's not possible there and it has never been possible to get a child out to have it done. Just standing there I thought we've seen the same condition with Palestinian children and we've got them in time and they've been saved. The artery to the lungs comes from the left ventricle and the artery from the body comes from the right ventricle. This situation is a very dangerous situation, you cannot live long with it. Parents watching\u003cbr/\u003eA week-old Iraqi baby has arrived in Israel where she will undergo an operation to correct a congenital heart problem with the aid of the Israeli organisation Save a Child's Heart.\u003cbr/\u003eWrapped in a red and yellow blanket and held by her mother, Bayan Jassem was met by Israeli doctors at the entrance to the hospital's emergency room in Helon.\u003cbr/\u003eAkiva Tamir, the director of paediatric cardiology at the hospital, took Jassem and carried her to a hospital bed where he hooked her up to a sonogram to check her heart.\u003cbr/\u003eJonathan Miles, an American who travelled with the family from Iraq to Israel over the weekend, translated from Hebrew and Arabic for the doctors and parents.\u003cbr/\u003eDoctors don't yet know when the operation will be carried out, but it must be within two weeks of the baby's birth.\u003cbr/\u003eAn American doctor working with the US forces occupying Iraq who checks babies for heart defects discovered Jassem's problem a day after her birth in a hospital near Kirkuk, in northern Iraq.\u003cbr/\u003eThe doctor contacted Miles, who telephoned Save a Child's Heart and the Wolfson Medical Center to ask if they could perform the operation.\u003cbr/\u003eTamir, the Israeli doctor, instructed a doctor in Baghdad over the phone on how to perform a minor operation on Jassem to stabilise her condition before she flew with her parents to Amman and then travelled by car to Israel.\u003cbr/\u003eSave a Child's Heart was founded in Israel and receives most of its funding from donations in Israel, the United States, Canada and Germany.\u003cbr/\u003eIt has given medical treatment to almost 1,000 children since it was founded in
