Mid pan from American cheerleader, to wide of the Chinese cheerleaders practicing cheerleading\u003cbr/\u003eChina has imported cheerleading talent from America to build enthusiasm and entertain crowds at this year's Beijing Olympics.\u003cbr/\u003eA group of American football cheerleaders from the New England Patriots team recently spent more than a week in China working with men and women carefully selected for the Chinese team.\u003cbr/\u003eDuring training, the US cheerleaders put the Chinese teams through their paces, and familiarised them with high-energy dance routines that are popular with US sports audiences.\u003cbr/\u003eThe aim is to provide a cheerleading style welcome to foreign teams and spectators, Chinese state media said.\u003cbr/\u003e\"It's great to come over here and show them what we have to offer and they can show us what they think cheerleading is,\" said one of the New England Patriots cheerleaders.\u003cbr/\u003eThe 600-strong Olympic cheerleading team were selected in a rigorous nationwide competition.\u003cbr/\u003eOne successful applicant,  Zhou Xi told AP Television she was proud to get through.\u003cbr/\u003e\"We've been through a series of competitions and we were selected from thousands of people. It's very difficult to get this far and we are all very proud of it,\" she said.\u003cbr/\u003eThe combination of American cheerleading and choreographed Chinese performances has resulted in an interesting intersection of styles, as evidenced in one particular routine involving a traditional martial arts weapon.\u003cbr/\u003eMade famous by martial arts star Bruce Lee, the weapon consists of two rods joined together by a chain.\u003cbr/\u003eAnother routine developed by the Olympic cheerleaders uses traditional Chinese fans.\u003cbr/\u003eHowever the routines are not all traditionally Chinese. \u003cbr/\u003eIn a nod to US style, the Chinese team will incorporate pom-pom's, barely there costumes and familiar moves.\u003cbr/\u003eChina hopes that its foreign-trained cheerleaders will improve the atmosphere at some Olympic events in Beijing.\u003cbr/\u003eThe Chinese cheerleaders will perform at Olympic sports events that traditionally have cheerleaders, like basketball.\u003cbr/\u003eThe team will not support individual national teams, but will provide general entertainment at the Olympic
