The same with the mid-century period of Tel Aviv architecture - the exterior of this building is concrete, it connects to that period but again transforms it into something else. Exterior of museum entrance\u003cbr/\u003eThe Tel Aviv Museum of Art opens its new 55 (m) million dollar extension today (Wednesday November 2).\u003cbr/\u003eThe sparkling white concrete structure doubles the amount of exhibition space, giving a new home to the collection of Israeli art.\u003cbr/\u003eThis glistening white slab of angular concrete is the latest addition to the Museum of Modern art in Tel Aviv.\u003cbr/\u003eThe new extension opens this week after a 55 (m) million dollar construction programme. \u003cbr/\u003eIt was designed by the American architect Preston Scott Cohen, head of the Harvard University Graduate School of Architecture.\u003cbr/\u003eThe extension provides nearly 200,000 square feet (18,500 square metres) of new space, doubling the museum's previous capacity.\u003cbr/\u003eThe German artist Anselm Kiefer is the subject of the big international exhibition that opens the new galleries.\u003cbr/\u003eAmong other subjects, Kiefer's work deals with the pain and guilt of German history after World War Two and the Holocaust. \u003cbr/\u003eBesides a rolling programme of temporary exhibitions, the new space is also a chance to reveal more of the museum's collection of Israeli art, says Shuli Kislev, the museum's Acting Director:\u003cbr/\u003e\"Today Israeli artists are well known worldwide. A glass ceiling sends light tumbling down, all the way to the lower levels.\u003cbr/\u003eCohen says he wants the new spaces to provide flexibility for the curators - and a 'wow' factor for the public:\u003cbr/\u003e\"It basically is a building of two types of space. \u003cbr/\u003eIt houses works by more than a dozen 20th century masters, including Pablo Picasso, Vincent Van Gogh and Amadeo Modigliani.   \u003cbr/\u003eThe new wing's permanent exhibit presents three galleries with 250 works from well known Israeli artists like Reuven Rubin and Igael Tumarkin.\u003cbr/\u003eThe works range from painting to sculpture, created over the last century.  \u003cbr/\u003eOther galleries will show photographs and design installations. \u003cbr/\u003eTel Aviv Mayor Ron Huldai, visiting the museum ahead of the official opening, lauded the new wing for
