We did a ventilation system inside the pyramid, we cleaned the graffiti and at the same time we restored the cracks in the grand gallery and we did one of the most important lighting systems inside the pyramid. Also 300 people only are permitted to enter the pyramid a day because we need to preserve the pyramid. Three tombs also will be opened today to the public, tomb of a vizier dated to dynasty four and also the tomb of Sechem Nefer as the largest tomb ever found at Giza.\"\u003cbr/\u003eSUPER CAPTION: Dr.  Zahi Hawass, director of Giza plateau\u003cbr/\u003eThe pyramid's first and second chambers will open to visitors for the first time since the  structure was built.\u003cbr/\u003eThe chambers, which are empty, were believed to have originally been intended for the pharaoh's burial place before the engineers changed their minds and carved him another burial chamber on a different level inside the pyramid.\u003cbr/\u003eThe Sphinx temple, some consider as the oldest in Egypt, and three tombs near the Cheops' Great Pyramid were also opened on Thursday.\u003cbr/\u003eThe 20-meter by 20-meter (66-feet by 66-feet) temple, which stands in front of the nearly 4-thousand-500-year old, half-lion, half-man figure, has 24 pillars representing the day's hours. It also has two carved niches that depict sunrise and sunset.\u003cbr/\u003eTwo of the three tombs belong to Nefer Maet, King Khefren's son and his prime minister and to Sneferu-kha-ef, the king's treasurer.\u003cbr/\u003eThe third tomb, whose walls bear colored paintings depicting worshipers making offerings to the gods, belongs to Shesem-nefer, whose title was secret keeper to a king whose name historians were not able to identify.\u003cbr/\u003eEgypt will usher in the millennium by affixing a gold-encased capstone on the Great Pyramid, making it whole again, if only for the night.\u003cbr/\u003eFrench musician Jean-Michael Jarre has been hired to compose a new opera to be performed at the pyramids starting at sunset Dec. 31, 1999 and ending with the first rays of the year 2000.\u003cbr/\u003eEgypt, whose economy was badly effected by fall of tourism revenues, after the November 1997 massacre in Luxor expect the event to attract hundreds of thousands of tourists. \u003cbr/\u003eFifty eight tourists were killed by Muslim militants.\u003cbr/\u003eBut opposition parties have criticized the celebrations saying that they will incur exorbitant cost a time when the state needs to rationalize public expenditure.\u003cbr/\u003eThey urged the government to spend the money instead on social service.\u003cbr/\u003eGiza, Egypt - 3 June, 1999 \u003cbr/\u003e1.
