Middle schoolers who are about to read the chilling tale, The Lottery, do some writing beforehand. They are asked to write how their lives would change if they won a huge lottery jackpot. Then, they read the short story, and will be shocked by the "prize" that the winner receives. The thought-provoking lesson should result in some animated discussion, and sharing of thought among classmates. After the story is read, a visual art assignment is given out, which will further cement this story in your kids' minds. Perfect for middle schoolers!
